John Lewis trials furniture re-use scheme
A new service that collects and re-uses furniture to the benefit of people in need is being trialled at John Lewis in Liverpool.
The upholstery re-use trial offers customers buying new furniture from the retailer an alternative way to dispose of their old furniture items by donating them to homes in need.
Old furniture will be collected from customers’ homes then redistributed by the Furniture Re-use Network (FRN), a national co-ordinating body of 400 UK re-use organisations.
Lucy Shaw, the responsible sourcing manager at John Lewis said: “It is a really good idea that fits in with the Partnership’s ethos around encouraging sustainable consumption.
“Working with the FRN network also means that the furniture stays local.”
The trail will run until 25 February and if successful the service will be rolled out to other stores during 2012.
