John Lewis sales up 9.7% last week

John Lewis saw its sales rise by 9.7% year-on-year last week as customers started to ramp up their Christmas shopping.

Electricals and home technology had a strong week with sales up 17.6% on last year. Sales of Apple Macbooks, Sonos speakers and smart home products all helped to bolster the category.

Fashion sales climbed by 8.6% with trade boosted by a 19% uplift in women’s shoes as customers purchased winter boots as the weather grew colder. Sales of women’s fashion accessories rose by 19.4%.

Home had a solid week with sales up 3.7%. Sales of furniture finished the week up 10% while the textiles and carpets category reported an 8.4% uplift.

John Lewis will be launching its much anticipated Christmas advertising campaign on 10 November.
