John Lewis sales up 9.6% in first full week of clearance
John Lewis said the first full week of its clearance sale got off to a bumper start, helping sales last week to rise 9.6% year-on-year.
The retailer said its shops put in a robust performance with the new format shops achieving some of the biggest percentage increases.
Online sales rose by 17% with click & collect orders 37% ahead of last year.
Looking at the directorates, fashion sales surged by 27.1% boosted by 45% growth in childrenswear. Accessories and beauty also performed strongly as they benefited from matching a competitor’s promotion with growth of 28% year-on-year.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Home sales increased by 9.5% with record levels of trade from reduced and Special Buy products. Sales of textiles and carpets rose by 11%, while cooking & dining and furniture sales increased by 10% and 9% respectively.
Electricals and home technology sales fared less well, edging down 0.8% on last year.
