John Lewis sales up 8.7% last week
John Lewis has reported that sales grew by 8.7% year-on-year last week as customers looked ahead to Easter and the start of warmer weather.
Fashion sales rose by 5.3% with menswear the stand-out performer. There was also an increase in sales of warm weather clothing.
With an uplift of 13.3%, electricals and home technology sales were driven by a strong week in communications technology, with news of product launches from key brands driving interest across the category.
Meanwhile, home sales rose by 8.5% boosted by a strong performance in furniture, particularly beds. With customers looking ahead to Easter, gift food collections were also popular as were products featured in the retailer’s Never Knowingly Undersold marketing campaign.
Mark Felix, director of online trade at John Lewis, said: “With the Easter holidays now upon us, and customers preparing to mark the occasion, we are looking ahead to a busy week in both our shops and online.”
