John Lewis sales up 6% last week

John Lewis increased its sales by 6% year-on-year last week as the retailer enjoyed buoyant trade in its autumn fashion ranges.

Stores achieving the best percentage increases included Exeter, Knight & Lee and Stratford where sales rose by 18.6%, 13.5% and 11.9% respectively. Meanwhile, online sales at johnlewis.com climbed by 21.1%.

Fashion sales surged by 12.4% boosted by strong sales in cashmere items and womenswear as customers snapped up the new season’s stock.

In the home directorate, sales increased by 3.2% with the accessories and gifting, textiles and cookshop categories performing particularly well.

Electricals and home technology sales were also up, rising by 2.9%.

Liz Mihell, head of selling at John Lewis at home, said: “Autumn is without a doubt just around the corner and all the signs are that the new season’s fashion and home assortments are hitting the mark with customers.”
