John Lewis sales up 6.7% last week

John Lewis has reported a strong performance across all three of its categories last week, with sales up 6.7% year-on-year.

Fashion sales rose by 10.3% as trade was boosted by a 21.4% increase in womenswear sales as customers updated their winter wardrobes.

Electrical and home technology sales were up 8.7% after mobile delivered one of its biggest ever weeks. Audio products continued to perform well with headphone sales up 71%.

Meanwhile, home sales finished the week up 2.3% with big ticket items proving popular. The category benefited from the launch of a special ‘Autumn Event’ across shops and online with a variety of offers on home products.

The week also saw John Lewis open its 48th shop, a regional flagship department store in Leeds.
