John Lewis sales up 4.7% last week

John Lewis saw its sales increase by 4.7% year-on-year on last week as trade was boosted by its ongoing clearance sale and strong sales in warm weather products.

Fashion sales climbed by 9.6% with both womenswear and menswear performing well. Sales of warm weather items picked up, particularly in the sandals and sunglasses categories.

Electricals and home technology sales rose by 3% on last year. Audio was one of the strongest performers driven mainly by sales of headphones as people prepared for their summer holidays. Communication technology also had a good week with sales up 15.4%.

Meanwhile, home sales edged up 1.7% compared with the corresponding week last year. Some of the best performing categories included home accessories, gifts and beds. Summer clearance and special buy products also sold well.
