John Lewis sales up 2.6% last week
Sales at John Lewis rose by 2.6% year-on-year last week as fashion sales benefited from the colder weather.
Menswear sales were particularly strong with standout performances coming from outerwear, winter boots and branded casualwear. This helped the fashion directorate to achieve an overall increase of 8.9% in the week.
Electricals and home technology sales also performed well with a rise of 2.2% driven by continuing strong sales of the iPad Pro, fitness trackers and mobile phones. Demand for televisions and computers was lower during the week as customers waited for Black Friday offers.
The home directorate had a slower week with sales declining by 2.9%.
David Barford, director of selling for London & South at John Lewis said: “Last week was all about the cold weather, with our fashion in particular selling well.
“Customers were also clearly planning ahead for Black Friday, looking at the products which are available and researching online so they can take advantage of this week’s offers. John Lewis has prepared well for the day and will participate through our Never Knowingly Undersold commitment and our own range of special offers.”
