12 February, 2016 | by Retail Bulletin
John Lewis increased its sales by 2.5% year-on-year last week despite the unsettled weather.
The department store said sales in the shops were down overall but the new format branches at Heathrow, Tunbridge Wells, Poole, York and Ipswich all made good headway.
Looking at the directorates, electricals and home technology sales grew by 5.4% in the week with white goods and vision putting in a strong performance.
Fashion sales climbed by 4.4% as customers bought cold weather items and responded well to the new season’s ranges.
In the home directorate, sales were down 1.9% year-on-year due to slower trading in the furniture category following a strong run during the clearance sale.
