John Lewis sales up 11.6% last week

John Lewis increased its sales by 11.6% year-on-year last week with Bank Holiday Monday in particular driving trade.

All three product areas achieved a strong uplift on the same week last year.

In a week of changeable weather, fashion sales climbed by 13.4% as customers bought warm weather products. Sales of women’s accessories were 16.8% up with sunglasses and sandals selling particularly well.

Electricals and home technology achieved a sales uplift of 11.9% as the warmer weather drove trade in cooling products. Tablets and computing also had a good week with sales up 24.3%.

Meanwhile, home sales grew by 10.3% year-on-year. The outdoor living category was the star performer with sales up 110% on last year. Other top performing categories included home accessories, gifts and furniture.
