John Lewis sales up 10.4% last week

John Lewis grew its sales by 10.4% year-on-year last week.

Electricals and home technology sales surged by 19.1%, driven by a strong set of results in the vision, audio and connected home categories. Communications technology also had a good week due to buoyant sales of tablets and computers.

In fashion sales were 4.9% ahead of the corresponding week in the previous year, boosted by a 12.1% uplift in menswear sales.

Meanwhile, home sales climbed by 8.5% as trade was driven by strong sales of gift and home accessories including Easter decorations and chocolate. Other categories putting in a solid performance included stationery, cookshop, upholstery and outdoor living.

David Barford, director of selling at John Lewis, said: “With Easter now behind us, and the weather set to improve, we are in a strong position to showcase our Spring collection.”
