John Lewis sales up 0.8% last week

John Lewis saw its sales creep up by 0.8% year-on-year last week.

Fashion sales finished the week down 10% despite strong performances from babywear, swimwear and nightwear. Sales figures were impacted by matching a competitor’s promotion in the same week last year, and the continued cooler April weather.

With sales up 9%, the electricals and home technology directorate performed well as tablets, computers and mobile phones continued to drive sales.

Meanwhile, sales in the home directorate increased by 6.3% boosted by a strong performance in furniture.
