John Lewis sales edge up 1.1% last week

Sales at John Lewis edged up 1.5% year-on-year last week following a stronger increase in the previous week due to the fall of half term.

Electricals and home technology sales climbed by 11.4% driven by buoyant trade in large and small electrical appliances. The communication technology category also had a good week with tablets selling well.

Home sales were up 1.1% as the Queen’s 90th Birthday boosted sales of British heritage products within the gift food category. In addition, there was a strong result for the outdoor living category.

Fashion had a softer week with sales down 5.4% on last year as the cooler weather led to slower sales of high summer lines.
