John Lewis reports best trading of the half-year to date

John Lewis saw the best trading of the half-year to date last week, with sales rising 8.6% on last year.

17 stores posted sales increases, the top five being Cardiff at  +19%, Glasgow and Poole at +15%, and Leicester and Trafford at +8%.

The retailer said that fashion sales delivered an increase of 13.9% whilst sales of electrical and home technology items rose 4.5%, and home goods by 6.3%.

Johnlewis.com also achieved its best performance of the half-year at +45.6% with the successful launch the of the website internationally during the week.

Nat Wakely, John Lewis Region A selling operations director, said it had been “a great week to precede the start of clearance”.
