John Lewis Partnership to invest in new tech talent
The John Lewis Partnership is to recruit 150 tech specialists as part of an investment in its online business.
The owner of the John Lewis department store and Waitrose supermarket chains has seen online sales surge since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and its websites now have more than 55 million visitors per month.
While online sales now make up almost 70% of John Lewis sales, online sales at Waitrose have grown from 5% in 2020 to nearly 20% this year.
The new raft of tech jobs will span a range of technologies across software, cloud platform, native app, data engineering and delivery leads. The roles will also support the growth and development of the John Lewis and Waitrose apps.
Sandra Christie, head of engineering at the John Lewis Partnership, said: “We have an industry leading team driving the digital growth of our two iconic brands, Waitrose and John Lewis. It’s our partners who make the difference and we’re really excited to be making the significant investment in growing our engineering talent.”
