John Lewis has a quieter week
John Lewis said sales were slower last week increasing by only 2.9% on the same week last year as the rush to buy back to school items quietened down.
Online sales rose by 23.3% while Edinburgh was the best performing store with sales up by 5.7% followed by Knight & Lee at 4.5% and Leicester up 3%.
Sales at the new Westfield Stratford City store started well, hitting a top-10 ranking for the first five days of trading.
Across the division at large, EHT led with sales up by 7% as new lines such as the exclusive Dyson Hot heater and new tablet computer ranges were introduced. Fashion sales increased by 3% and premium beauty fared well, fuelled by Never Knowingly Undersold price matching.
Home sales were level with a year ago with home accessories and gifts performing strongly. Forward orders were also very strong as customers began to think about autumn and Christmas makeovers.
Nat Wakely, director, Selling Operations (Region A), John Lewis said: “So overall a great launch for our newest branch and an encouraging start for Team Stratford, with the prospects of our latest marketing TV advertising campaign to look forward to.”
