The latest sales figures from UK department store chain John Lewis confirm that the warm summer weather has bought the shoppers out.
Sales at John Lewis in the week ending July 26 were 6.6 per cent higher than the same week a year ago.
Over the first half of the year as a whole, sales at John Lewis rose 2 per cent compared with 2002, reflecting the subdued consumer confidence seen for much of the year.
Luke Mayhew, John Lewis managing director of department stores said: “This was a much better week on which to end the half. For once the weather was in our favour and branches took good advantage with some strong increases.”
