John Lewis delves into archives for Coronation Festival
John Lewis is showcasing its fashion and homewares at the Coronation Festival for Royal Warrant holders, which is being held at Buckingham Palace Gardens this week.
The retailer has recreated four dresses from its archive for a catwalk show at the event, along with two exclusive designs in Balmoral tartan from Somerset by Alice Temperley.
“As a Royal warrant holder, it’s an honour to showcase John Lewis fashion at the Coronation Festival catwalk,” said Jo Hooper, head of buying for womenswear.
“To celebrate John Lewis’ rich heritage, we chose to search the archives for prints and patterns from the year of the Queen’s Coronation and recreated four exclusive dresses, which will sit beautifully alongside designs from the present day.”
Never Miss a Retail Update! The 1953 dresses are also on display in John Lewis Oxford Street’s windows, and featured in Hello! magazine this week.
Staff at the retailer’s Peter Jones department store also created a room set for the festival using John Lewis products.
“We’re really excited,’ said Ashley Blears, acting department manager. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate being Royal Warrant holders and to be involved in an event on this scale.”
