John Lewis clearance sale gets off to strong start
John Lewis said its clearance sale got off to a strong start after launching online on Christmas Eve at 5pm. In the first full hour of the sale, the retailer saw a 17.7% increase in orders compared to last year.
Clearance shopping online continued on Christmas Day with orders up 10.7% year-on-year. Traffic to johnlewis.com was up 11% compared to last year with 75% of traffic coming from mobile devices as customers chose to browse on smart phones and tablets.
Website traffic dipped slightly between 2pm and 4pm as people sat down to Christmas lunch but sales soon picked up again and peaked between 9pm and 10pm.
Mark Felix, director for online trade at John Lewis, said: “We’re delighted to see a strong start to this year’s Clearance online. Customers were quick to find great deals this year with the Apple Watch, KitchenAid stand mixer and Molton Brown gift sets some of our most popular purchases. We also sold one LEGO Minifigures set every two seconds during the first hour of Clearance.”
