John Lewis clearance sale gets off to flying start

John Lewis said its clearance sale got off to flying start with orders on Christmas Eve rising by 16% year-on-year between 5pm and 6pm.

On Christmas Day online orders increased by 19% to mark John Lewis’s biggest ever Christmas Day for orders. Some 72% of traffic came from mobile and tablet devices.

Similar to last year, traffic dipped between 1pm and 4pm on Christmas Day as people sat down to enjoy Christmas dinner but sales then peaked at 9pm to 10pm.

Mark Lewis, online director at John Lewis, said: “We know that customers quickly switch from Christmas shopping to bargain hunting and we’re thrilled to see a good start to this year’s Clearance online. We expect customers to continue to log on throughout today to take advantage of the thousands of offers we have available and then from tomorrow, browse in-store as our shops across the country reopen their doors.”

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Popular items included LEGO Minifigures with more than 10 being sold every minute during the first hour of the clearance sale. Molton Brown and Crabtree & Evelyn beauty sets also sold well, along with luxury pillows, pillowcases and towels.
