John Lewis appoints Will Kernan as non-executive director

John Lewis Partnership has appointed former River Island chief executive Will Kernan as a non-executive director.

Due to take up his position on 12 September, he will succeed Nish Kankiwala who became the partnership‘s chief executive in March.

Kernan has worked extensively in the retail sector and has held several leadership positions, including chief executive of River Island, Wiggle Chain Reaction Group, and The White Company.

He also worked for 13 years with New Look during which time he assumed various roles ranging from group financial director to group trading director, chief operating officer, and ultimately group managing director. He is currently chairman of the Neptune interiors brand.

Sharon White, chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, said, “I’m delighted to welcome Will as the newest member of our partnership board. We’re fortunate to have his extensive experience and expertise, which will play a significant role in our ongoing transformation. As well as his outstanding retail experience Will brings real interest and support for the partnership model.”
