John Browett to leave Apple after just six months

Apple has announced that its new head of retail John Browett is to leave the company after just six months in the role.

The former Dixons CEO had been hired by the technology giant in April to drive the global expansion of its stores.

When announcing the appointment back in January, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Browett had been selected due to his commitment to customer service being “like no one else we’ve met.”  However, it is understood that Browett upset Apple workers by cutting staff hours at the company’s retail stores, a move which Apple subsequently reversed and acknowledged as a mistake.

Apple declined to give a reason for Browett’s departure but said it was already looking for his replacement.

The news comes as Apple announced that iOS software senior vice president Scott Forstall will leave the company next year. Forstall led the division which developed the software update that replaced Google Maps with Apple’s first mapping application. However, the software has drawn criticism for a number of glitches including inaccuracies in placing towns, cities and key landmarks.
