JD Sports appoints PR and communications manager

Sportswear retailer JD Sports Fashion has appointed Karen Monks as PR and communications manager.

Monks was previously director of PR at Manchester based PR firm Bird Consultancy where she worked for almost 18 years.

In her new role, she will work closely with the marketing team and the HR department on internal and external communications across the JD Sports group.

In April, JD Sports reported that its full year profits before tax and exceptional items had broken the £100 million barrier for the first time. In the year to 31 January 2015, the company continued its expansion into Europe with the opening of new stores in France, Spain, Holland, Germany and Ireland. It is also planning to open a new JD flagship store on London’s Oxford Street this summer.

Monks said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining JD, the company continues to expand across the UK and Europe and there’s a passionate team of talented people behind it to support the growth.”
