JD.com partners with hotels in ‘Boundaryless Retail’ strategy

As part of its Boundaryless Retail strategy, Chinese online retail giant JD.com is to allow guests at a range of hotels across China to experience some of the products it sells from the comfort of their rooms.

Some of the rooms at Wanda, Sheraton, Beijing 5L, Greenland and other hotels will be kitted out with a range of products popular among travellers. These include a Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush, a JD smart speaker and high-performance power banks to charge their devices.

JD has launched the initiative after finding that many of its 300 million customers make purchases for same or next day delivery while travelling.

If guests like the products they try during their hotel stay, they can then purchase them on JD.com by scanning a QR code in their rooms. The products will then be dispatched either straight to the customer’s hotel or to their home.

Jing Zhou, director of JD.com’s lifestyle business, said: “Working with hotels is a great way to show how boundaryless retail can make that experience even more seamless. By partnering with top hotel brands across China, we can both enhance the experience of hotel guests and offer more targeted, high-quality exposure for our brand partners.”
