Jane Norman jobs under threat as talks with Debenhams break down
Nearly 500 workers face losing their jobs following the termination by Debenhams of its concession agreement with fashion retailer Jane Norman.
Edinburgh Woollen Mill bought the Jane Norman brand and 33 of its following the fashion chain’s collapse earlier in the summer but the concessions in Debenhams did not form part of the deal.
Debenhams had been talking with administrators and the new owners about finding a way of taking the concessions forward. However, the discussions stalled after Debenhams reportedly complained of “unreasonable” demands for “tens of millions” of pounds to continue the partnership.
The department store said it was trying to find new roles for the staff working in the concessions although unlitmate responsibility lies with administrators Zolfo Cooper.
Debenhams said it intends to use the 80,000 sq ft of trading space occupied by Jane Norman to house new concessions and Debenhams own brands.
