Jane Newell to become chair of John Lewis pension trust
John Lewis has announced that it has appointed Jane Newell OBE, the former chair of the Royal Mail Pension Plan, as a director and chairman elect of the John Lewis Partnership Pensions Trust. The appointment will be effective from 1 November 2012.
The directors of the Pensions Trust will elect Newell as chair at their first meeting in the New Year. Newell will be the first independent chair of the Trust.
Newell has recently stepped down as chair of the Royal Mail Pension Plan after seven years. She has also held chairmanships of the DSG International Pension Scheme, the United Utilities Pension Scheme and Trustee of the GlaxoSmithKline Pension Plan.
Charlie Mayfield, chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Jane to the Pensions Trust. Jane brings a wealth of experience and expertise and a proven record of strong strategic leadership, all of which will be of great value to the Trust.”
