Innovation honoured at Maplin Electronics
Award for expanding retailer
Maplin Electronics has won a national award for innovation, beating off competition from the top 100 private businesses in the UK.
Maplin was awarded the Profit Track 100 Award for Innovation, sponsored by the Bank of Scotland, at the annual Sunday Times Price Waterhouse Coopers Profit Track 100 awards.
The judging panel selected Maplin Electronics from the Sunday Times Profit Track 100, a listing of the top 100 fastest growing privately owned businesses.
Maplin was listed at number 12 in this year’s Profit Track 100, making the electronics retailer the top Yorkshire-based company in the listing and also the top retailer.
Maplin has achieved remarkable growth after refocusing its business from mail order to internet and retail sales, and now has over 85 stores in the UK. There are plans for 12 new stores in 2004 and an overall aim of 250 stores in the UK over the next 10 years.
Managing director Graham Caldwell said: “We are very proud to be awarded with the Profit Track 100 award for innovation. We believe that our continued success stems from both our forward-thinking approach to our business and our relentless drive to be in touch with our customers and their needs.
“We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of the electronics retail market and are constantly looking for ways to improve upon the success which we have already achieved. The award is also a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.”
