Ilva appoints UK chief
Colin Haggerty joins Danish furniture retailer
Danish furniture retailer Ilva has appointed Colin Haggerty as chief operating officer of its UK arm as it plans it entry into the market.
Ilva, run by former B&Q and Habitat boss Martin Toogood, said Haggerty’s appointment is a significant step in putting together its UK management team.
Haggerty has experience of UK retail at director level with companies including B&Q, Warehouse, Superdrug and Marks & Spencer.
Toogood, chairman and CEO of Ilva group said: “Colin is a dedicated and passionate retailer whose people skills and broad business experience will be critical to building a chain of Ilva stores in the UK. I am delighted to welcome Colin to what is already a great adventure.”
Toogood led the €100m acquisition of Ilva with backing from private equity firm Advent International in 2003. Following Ikea’s example, the retailer hopes to open 20 furniture superstores in the UK over the next decade.
