IKEA trials self-service lockers at Tesco stores
IKEA is trialling next-generation self-service lockers as an extension to its partnership with Tesco.
The new automated pick-up locker, one of three that will feature in the trial, is now live at Tesco’s Peterborough Werrington Superstore. Lockers in Dereham and Cambridge will be launched later this month.
Customers within 100km of the Werrington superstore will be able to order a range of IKEA products for pick-up, including home accessories, homewares and furniture.
To select a locker collection when checking out, customers can choose the ‘Collect from an IKEA Store or Locker’ delivery option and select ‘Tesco, Werrington Car Park Lockers’ as the location. Once an order has been confirmed, customers will receive an email and text containing a 6-digit code to unlock the locker and collect their order.
Jakob Bertilsson, country customer fulfilment manager, IKEA UK, said: “We’re continuously exploring new ways to connect with our customers across the UK and this trial marks a significant milestone in our ambition to become even closer to our customers.
“We’re excited to extend our successful partnership with Tesco to bring these next-generation lockers to our customers in the Peterborough area and provide a range of services that are affordable, accessible and provide the best possible experience.”
The new lockers build on the existing partnership between IKEA and Tesco, which has included over 100 mobile pick-up points being launched at Tesco stores across the UK. A further 100 pick-up points are in the pipeline, half of which are due to open this year.
Simon Williams, Tesco’s assets and estates director, said: “We’re pleased to be building on our existing partnership with IKEA to trial innovative ways of improving the shopping experience for Tesco and IKEA customers.
“Our IKEA manned Click & Collect points are already widely used with almost 100 in operation right across the UK, and we hope that these convenient and forward-thinking new automated lockers are just as well received.”
