Iceland like-for-likes in the black

Strong summer sales boost frozen food chain
October 8 2003
The summer heatwave was good news for frozen food chain Iceland, with owner Big Food Group reporting a like-for-like sales increase of 1.7 per cent in the chain over the 13 weeks to September 26.

The stronger performance from Iceland was helped by sales of soft drinks, ice cream and barbecue products, which also boosted Big Food’s Booker cash and carry chain, which saw non-tobacco up by 1.6 per cent.
Iceland now has more than 10 per cent of its stores trading under its new formats and will convert a further 60 stores in the second half.
Big Food said a continued focus on deal promotions, and a re-focus on frozen food has also helped push like-for-likes into positive territory.
Booker now has almost 1200 customers operating under its Premier store fascia, with sales to this segment above average customer spend.
