Hunter sows seeds for Wyevale bid
23 February, 2006 | by Retail Bulletin
Sir Tom Hunter has been linked with a potential bid for Wyevale
Reports have suggested that Hunter has already approached Laxey Partners about buying its 28.6 per cent stake in the chain. But it is also thought he may consider an offer for the whole group.
Laxey led an aggressive campaign against Wyevale’s former chief executive David Williams last year, forcing him out him out at an emergency meeting in December.
It is believed that Hunter will be unwilling to make as high an offer as the bid approach that Cinven made for Laxey’s stake. It is also possible that Hunter could pull out of the deal now his interest in Wyevale has become public.
