House of Fraser hails bumper Christmas sales

Department store group House of Fraser has reported its best ever Christmas with like-for-like sales increasing by 7.3%.

In the three weeks to 28 December, online sales surged by 57.7% while fashion sales were also strong.

In the first nine weeks of the retailer’s fourth quarter like-for-like sales increased by 4.3%.

House of Fraser said it now expects to end the year with lower net debt, which in the year to 26 January 2013 was £157.2 million.

The group made a loss before tax and exceptional items of £6.9 million in the last financial year and currently operates 61 stores across the UK and Ireland.

Last month, it was reported that French department store chain Galeries Lafayette was in talks to acquire House of Fraser with exclusivity until the end of January.
