Homestyle in furniture fight-back

Sales up in tougher market
November 4 2003
Homestyle Group has continued to build sales in a challenging UK high street market.

The textiles and furniture retailer said that in the seven weeks to November 1, its beds and textiles divisions has continued to trade ahead of the comparable period last year.
The furniture division, which is up against strongly increased competition from other retailers ranging from Argos to Marks & Spencer has been achieving a more positive sales performance since the end of the summer, as new products and marketing initiatives began to have an impact.
Homestyle said this trend had continued across the seven weeks, with like-for-like sales up 4 per cent.
In a trading statement, Homestyle warned: “Although this performance is encouraging, it is still too early to assess whether this progress can be sustained through the important Christmas and New Year trading periods.”
