Home sales surge at John Lewis as shoppers plan for early Christmas.
John Lewis sales surged last week with strong performances in products related to home entertaining.
Throughout the country John Lewis branches have reported increased sales in beds and bedding, rugs, cushions, lighting and curtains indicating that shoppers are gearing up for a family Christmas with entertaining guests front of mind.
The group achieved a sterling total of £71.98 million last week which is 17.1% up on last year and £500k above the equivalent week’s 2007 figure.
Andrew Murphy, Director of Operational Development for John Lewis says, “This week’s sales figures are a clear sign that Christmas shopping has begun in earnest. Despite challenging weather conditions yesterday our customers came out in force to buy gifts, decorations and in particular products for the home in advance of Christmas entertaining. The figures give us even more confidence that John Lewis’ strong and innovative products, customer service and price matching will ensure our continued position as market leader on the high street over the festive season”.
