Home Retail Group appoints chief technology officer
Home Retail Group, the owner of Argos and Homebase, has appointed George Goley as its new chief technology officer.
Due to take up his new role on 29 June, Goley will report to Home Retail Group chief executive John Walden and will serve on the group’s executive board.
Goley was previously chief information officer at Sears Holdings where he was responsible for the online business unit. From 2006 to 2012, he served as vice president of technology at Amazon.com and prior to that held technology leadership roles within the Microsoft Corporation.
Home Retail Group said information services director Pete Connor had decided to leave the business to pursue new opportunities after more than 18 years of service.
Walden said: “George is an impressive technology executive with a track record for building strong engineering teams and developing world-class, innovative, highly scalable software systems for digital businesses. He will be a key partner for both myself and our teams as we transform Argos and Homebase to be leaders in the modern, technology-led digital world.”
Goley added: “The UK is one of the most dynamic retail environments in the world and I am excited to be joining the teams that are transforming Argos and Homebase with technologies that will delight customers, colleagues and shareholders alike.”
