December 28 2003
Amazon.com set a new record at the peak of the holiday sales season, with more than 2.1m items ordered worldwide, or 24 items per second, on its busiest day in December.

The online retail giant consolidated its market leadership as more consumers ordered online than ever before.
Jeff Wilke, Amazon.com senior vice president of worldwide operations and customer service, said: “Offering more selection than ever and low prices helped our customers find exactly what they were looking for at Amazon.com this holiday season. We’re thankful to the millions of customers worldwide who trusted us with their holiday shopping this year.”
On is busiest day, Amazon’s worldwide fulfillment network shipped over one million packages. More than 70,000 gift certificates were ordered on December 24 for delivery via email in time for Christmas, and more than 99 per cent of orders were shipped in time to meet holiday deadlines worldwide.
