HMV celebrates reopening of Oxford Street store with signing by Sir Paul McCartney
HMV has announced that it is celebrating the return to its original Oxford Street store in London with an album signing by Sir Paul McCartney.
Sir Paul will sign copies of his NEW album at the flagship store at 363 Oxford Street on Friday 18 October. The retailer said 60 tickets guaranteeing access to the signing will be made available in the coming days as competition prizes via McCartney’s website and through competitions in the media and HMV’s social media channels. Other fans will be admitted to the signing on a first come first served basis.
HMV re-opened the doors to the flagship store on Saturday. Having originally opened in 1921 and closed in 2000, the store is credited as the place where the Beatles cut the demo disc that led to them meeting George Martin and signing with EMI. The site’s importance was formally recognized in 2000 when Sir George Martin unveiled a blue plaque outside the store reading ‘363 Oxford Street – The World’s Most Famous Music Store’.
HMV chairman, Paul McGowan said: “We’re truly honoured to welcome Paul McCartney back to HMV 363 Oxford Street. It sends a clear signal across the world that HMV is truly back in its rightful place as the home of entertainment.”
