H&M makes it debut in Australia
Swedish fashion retailer H&M has opened its first store in Australia.
Over 3,000 H&M fans were waiting outside the new shop in Melbourne when it opened its doors at the weekend. Housed in a 5,000 square metre heritage GPO building, the store is one of H&M’s largest in the world.
H&M chief executive Karl-Johan Persson and Australia country manager Hans Andersson both attended the opening and helped cut the ribbon.
Andersson said: “It’s exciting to finally have the opportunity to bring H&M to Australian shores, especially to launch in the GPO building which is such an iconic and beautiful Melbourne landmark.
Never Miss a Retail Update!“We have had an amazing response today and it is wonderful to see so many excited and happy customers in the store.”
The store is housed over three levels and sells clothing and accessories for adults and children as well as an ‘Australia Exclusive Collection’ which features a range of limited edition apparel and accessories for men and women.
On launch day customers received a t-shirt designed by a student at Melbourne’s RMIT after the retailer collaborated with the university on a student competition.
