H&M employees and customers select three global focus areas for the H&M Conscious Foundation
High street fashion retailer H&M has revealed which global issues its employees and customers have decided that its H&M Conscious Foundation should support in the coming years.
During the last week in October, H&M’s customers and employees voted on five global development issues which H&M had identified as the most pressing after consulting with a team of experts which included Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Sir Richard Branson and director of the Earth Institute Proessor Jeffrey D. Sachs.
Employees and customers were told that the three issues receiving the most votes would be supported by the foundation using funds of half a billion SEK which have been donated by H&M owner the Stefan Persson family.
Karl-Johan Persson, H&M chief executive, said: “A lot of people in several countries have taken the chance to vote and we are very happy about that. This shows that there is a great commitment among our employees and customers. The three issues which received the most votes are Clean Water, Education and Strengthening Women.
Never Miss a Retail Update!“The H&M Conscious Foundation wants to thank everyone who visited the site and placed their vote to make a difference!”
H&M said the most site visits were received from Germany, Sweden and The Netherlands.
The H&M Conscious Foundation will now partner with three world-renowned organisations, which have yet to be named, to address the three issues and to promote initiatives in countries where H&M operates. These partnerships are expected to be in place at the beginning of next year.
