Harrods to open chain of luxury hotels
Luxury department store Harrods is to open its own-branded hotels in prime locations around the world as part of its long-term strategy to enhance value creation from the Harrods brand.
Qatar Holding, which owns Harrods, plans to open Harrods hotels in key cities such as Kuala Lumpur, New York and Paris, as well as in China.
Preference will be given to sites already owned by Qatar Holding or its affiliates, such as those at Chelsea Barracks in London and Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.
The company is establishing a hotel management company to conduct market and feasibility studies to select suitable sites for the hotels. Yesterday it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jerantas Sdn Bhd in Malaysia to study the potential development of a hotel in Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur.
