Hammerson’s Bullring & Grand Central makes strong start to 2024
Hammerson has announced that Birmingham’s Bullring & Grand Central has made a strong start to 2024 with footfall at Bullring rising by 6% year-on year last month following an influx of new stores.
Last year’s openings included Nike’s new ‘Rise’ concept store, new shops for Bershka, Pull & Bear and TAG Heuer, as well as Marks & Spencer’s 65,000 square food-led flagship.
In addition, the scheme benefited from upsizes and expansions by JD, which more than doubled its footprint with a new 27,500 square foot space. In addition, Goldsmiths upsized to an 8,000 square foot boutique to meet high demand for its jewellery.
Last year, Hammerson announced that it would be working to transform the former John Lewis department store at the scheme into 200,000 square feet of wellbeing-designed offices.
Commenting on the uplift in footfall, Toby Tait, director of asset management at Hammerson, said: “It is great to see such a strong start to 2024, following a remarkable 2023 at Bullring & Grand Central, as we continued to deliver on our strategy with new brands, concepts and market firsts.
“The demand we are seeing for our space reinforces that ‘flight to quality’ and really does reflect the strength of our location and quality of our assets. We have more announcements to come in 2024 as we continue to drive our offer for our Birmingham community.”
