Hamleys reveals top ten toys for Christmas

Hamleys, the long established toy retailer, has revealed the list of toys it expects to be top of children’s wishlists at Christmas.

Half of the top ten toys  are licensed products with cars taking the first and second positions due to the popularity of the hit movies Transformers 3 and Cars 2. However, Hamleys said it expected more traditional toys and  hi-tech gadgets to also be popular.

At number one the Cars 2 Fully Loaded McMissile is a sports car with missiles that rise up out of the headlights and boot, and a bulletproof targeting visor which flips up from the back of the bonnet. It also features the voice of Michael Caine saying phrases from the film such as “This is top secret!” and “We’re being followed!”.

The Transformers 3 Mech Tech Leader Asst is a robot figure from the hit movie series and converts from a vehicle to a robot and back again. It also features blaster and missile sounds.

Laura Olver, head of buying and planning at Hamleys, commented: “There are so many licensed toys in the top ten list, that we decided to include a film and TV list this year. Demand for licensed toys seems to be higher than ever this year.”

The list also includes a number of higher price items  including the Lego Ninjago Fire Temple at £116, Rock on Elmo at £100 and Furreal Cookie at £114.

The top ten list in full is as follows:

Cars 2 Fully Loaded McMissile (Mattel)
Transformers 3 Mech Tech Leader Asst (Hasbro)
Furreal Cookie (Hasbro)
Kidizoom Twist (VTech)
Rock on Elmo (Hasbro)
Ninjago Fire Temple (Lego)
Nerf Vortex Nitron (Hasbro)
Moshi Monsters Talking Plush (Vivid)
iBall3 (HTI)
Barbie Fashionistas (Mattel)
