Hamleys revamp shows good results

Toy retailer Hamleys has reaped the benefits of the 2001 revamp of its flagship Regent Street store with a strong performance in the run-up to Christmas.
Like-for-like sales across the Hamleys brand in the three months from 29 September to December 28 were up 11.3 per cent, with Regent Street showing an increase of 8.3 per cent.
In the five weeks to December 28, and in comparison with a strong Christmas in 2001 following the launch of the refurbished store, like-for-like sales including Regent Street and the Hamleys Direct home shopping business were up 6.1 per cent. Like-for-like sales at Regent Street increased by 3.7 per cent.
Across the three month trading period, like for like sales across the brand were up 11.3 per cent, with Regent Street showing an increase of 8.3 per cent.
Hamley’s Bear Factory also made good progress, now trading from 35 stores in total, including five franchise stores overseas.
Hamleys chairman Simon Burke said: “We are pleased with these figures which show the growing strength and resilience of the Hamleys brand. Despite a challenging market environment, we are well placed to deliver future growth.”
