Halfords Christmas trading boosted by record online sales

Cycle and car parts retailer Halfords saw its total revenue increase by 6.6% in the 15 weeks to 10 January 2014, with like-for-like revenue up 5.2%, as the group enjoyed record growth in online sales.

Like-for-like revenue at the group’s retail division climbed by 5.9% in the 15 week period with cycling sales seeing significant growth boosted by strong sales in accessories and children’s bikes. Online sales rose by 13.8% to represent a record 11.7% of total sales.

In the autocentres division, total revenue climbed by 9.2% with like-for-like revenue edging up 0.1% as the retailer opened four new centres and appointed Andy Randall as managing director in the period.

In the 41 weeks to 10 January 2014, the group’s total revenue rose by 7.3% while like-for-like revenues increased by 5.9%.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Commenting on the trading, Halfords chief executive Matt Davies said: “Our retail top-line performance was robust in a period of comparatively mild weather. Cycling was again the standout performer, with our customers engaged by refreshed ranges, supported by a renewed customer-first promotional stance.”
