Staff uniforms sold through charity’s shops

The decision by Halfords to change its corporate identity has given an unexpected boost to children’s charity Barnardo’s.
The switch from the old blue, red and white logo to orange and black left the car parts, cycles and accessories retailer with more than 1,400 staff uniforms which were surplus to requirements.
The uniforms will be sold in Barnardo’s shops to help children and families stricken by poverty, homelessness, disability, bereavement or abuse.
Andy Torrance, director of operations at Halfords, said: “We are delighted the uniforms are going to help such a worthwhile cause as Barnardo’s. Although we could no longer use them, we wanted to make sure that they were still put to good use by someone who could benefit from them. Barnardo’s was the ideal choice for us.”
Barnardo’s head of retail development, John Ellis, said: “The uniforms will now be debranded and distributed to some of Barnardo’s 80 plus shops within the London, East Anglia and the South East region, and the money raised will assist the charity’s work with disadvantaged children, young people and their families.”
