GUS: Lewis boss steps down from board
Move follows spin-off of South African business
Alan Smart, chief executive of South African retailer Lewis, is stepping down as an executive director of retail group GUS.
The move follows the successful partial IPO of Lewis Group in the South African stock market.
Sir Victor Blank, chairman of GUS, said: “Alan Smart has been the chief executive of the Lewis Group for 13 years and joined the board of GUS in 1996.
“He has done an excellent job for the group in South Africa and as a member of the GUS board. We thank him for his immense contribution and wish him and all his colleagues in the Lewis Group every success.”
GUS is selling a stake of around 40 per cent in furniture and electricals business Lewis. The partial spin-off of the business follows the successful model followed by GUS wth fashion brand Burberry.
