Greggs to build new food factory in south of England
Bakery chain Greggs has announced plans to build a new food factory as it looks to expand its presence in the south of England.
Greggs, which operates 1,641 stores across the UK, said it was bringing forward its plans to build a second food manufacturing facility in the south of England and anticipates construction starting in mid-2013.
The company is already looking for suitable sites and will invest £30 – £35 million in building the new facility. Greggs said the factory will provide capacity for growth potential in wholesaling, franchising and new shop openings and will also reduce logistical costs.
In a statement the company said it anticipates opening around 100 net new shops during the current financial year, ahead of the 90 originally planned.
