Greggs reports sales rise

Bakery chain sees like-for-likes increase
January 8 2003
High Street bakers Greggs has reported an estimated like-for-like sales increase of 5.4 per cent in the 28 weeks to December 28.

The UK’s biggest bakery chain, which specialises in sandwiches and takeaway food, said the moderate growth rate compared with a particularly strong performance in the second half of 2001. Like-for-like sales over the Christmas period were just over 4 per cent.
Second half costs were in line with budgets, and in common with other retailers the business was hit by increased insurance costs. The company expects to report full year results in line with our expectations.
Greggs has around 1,200 outlets in the UK, trading under the Greggs and Bakers Oven brands.
