Greggs opens milestone 100th franchise store

Bakery chain Greggs has reached a major milestone with the opening of its 100th franchised shop.

Situated at Euro Garages forecourt on Arborfield Road in Reading, the store will create ten new jobs.

In addition to 51 franchised shops operated across the UK with Euro Garages, Greggs also has franchise partnerships with Moto, Wightlink, Blakemore, Applegreen UK and Northern Ireland, Compass and Sandpiper.

Martin Kibler, property director for Greggs, said: “To reach the 100th store milestone is a real achievement for both Greggs and our franchise partners. Our work in the franchise sector is integral to our business as it enables us to extend the Greggs offer to previously inaccessible locations, particularly transport hubs.

“Our partnership with Euro Garages has so far led to the development of Greggs outlets in 51 of its forecourt sites, with a further five scheduled for the remainder of this year. It’s an exciting time for all involved and we will continue to work closely with all partners to explore other opportunities in the future.”

The shop layout includes a seating area and free Wi-Fi.

Products on sale include items such as sausage rolls, baked savouries, sweet treats and sandwiches as well as products from the retailer’s Balanced Choice range which are all less than 400 calories and meet amber and green on the Food Standards Agency traffic light system for fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar. There is also a selection of cold and hot drinks, including freshly-ground 100% Fairtrade coffee.

Ilyas Munshi, commercial director for Euro Garages, said: “We are proud of our strategic partnership with Greggs. The brand has proved to be popular with our forecourt customers and people with busy lifestyles in search of a convenient retail destination, where they can satisfy their multiple shopper missions.”
