Go Outdoors to create 150 jobs as it opens three new stores
Outdoor retailer Go Outdoors is to create 150 jobs with the opening of new stores in Milton Keynes, Scunthorpe and Kidderminster.
The Milton Keynes store will open in April to be followed by Scunthorpe and Kidderminster in May. The openings will take the retailer’s total number of UK stores to 44.
Go Outdoors enjoyed strong trading in the last financial year with turnover rising by 19% to reach a milestone £203 million.
Founder and CEO John Graham said: “The £200 million turnover milestone is a tremendous achievement for everyone concerned with Go Outdoors. We are hugely grateful for the way staff, customers and suppliers have all believed in – and supported – us. We are all as passionate about the outdoors today as we were 15 years ago with one store in Sheffield and 14 staff. This year we will open our 44th store. It is a continuing success story we are all very proud of.”
Never Miss a Retail Update! In February, Go Outdoors announced the appointment of Dixons Retail executive Chris Matthews as its new chief executive. Matthews, who is currently the managing director of the electrical retailer’s Kotsovolos chain in Greece, will join Go Outdoors in May.
Go Outdoors has appointed a number of new members to its management team in the last year. In 2012, the company recruited Dan Quinn from Tesco as commercial director and Jon Asbury from Halfords as Go Outdoor’s first multi-channel director. It also appointed Chris Morgan from Focus as chief finance officer and Jeff Fagan as retail director from Mothercare.
